HI...

In RH 9
If I boot in gnome, I only get the Red Hat splash and the service icons
don't come up. Anybody know the problem?

If I boot into KDE, KDE comes up but some Gnome apps, like gedit will not
come up.

Do you have the latest updates from fedoralegacy.org? Red Hat 9 isn't
maintained by Red Hat anymore but sufficient numbers of people
apparently still find it useful that the Fedora Legacy Project is a
still releasing bug fixes. If the bug hasn't been fixed or reported
yet you could report it. If others aren't having the same problem
then you may have to go into more detail as to your configuration. Of
course you could theoretically try a different release or distribution
but it looks to me like that gets said so much as to seem
condescending and produce pointless clutter in related threads; using
RH9 for whatever reason is anyone's prerogative if they so choose and
I'll assume unless you say otherwise that you are doing so by choice.
Besides, a recent update to FC5 apparently made it impossible to log
in from kdm without a segmentation fault, so go figure.
