|
|
Hi,
I'm trying to install Slack 11 on an old laptop that only has
pcmcia/floppy/harddisk, I've created the floppies from the install.1,
install.2, pcmcia and network images. Now I have the problem that the
computer keeps reading the bootfloppy without booting. I already have
made several bootdisks (different floppies, redownloaded the install.1
image from different mirrors, fdformat, dd and cat command) but nothing
works. I know the floppydrive is ok, because it boots directly from an
old DOS-floppy. Can anyone tell me what I might do wrong?!
Thank you. |

The install.* disks are NOT bootable, they are the ROOT filesystem
the booted kernel has to load into the created RAM disk.
You need to create a bootable floppy from one of the images in the
"bootdisks" directory, like "bare.i", "bareacpi.i" or "sata.i",
depending on the kind of hard disk that is IN that laptop.
See the README.TXT in that directory.
PS: Slackware 11.0 was the last version that still _could_ create
bootable floppy images, the 2.6 kernel used since 12.0 doesn't fit
on a single floppy anymore.

Thanks for this reminder. Overread it...

Yup, that's the very reason I'm using Slack 11 here. |

As Eef pointed out, you didn't make a book disk, try bare.i first.
