Are Turbo Linux .rpm's unique, or can redhat, etc., rpm's be used?

Caveat: I haven't used Turbolinux in years. That said, my experience
with using RPMs for one distro on another is very mixed. I feel it's
best to seek RPMs specifically made for the target distro.
An option is to download the RPM closest to the kernel/libraries you
have in place and try to install it. I've done that a few times on a
typical older Red Hat (say 7.3), with apparent success.
But in general, mixing RPMs was more trouble that it was worth, IME.
YMMV, HTH...

It depends on the release number. With Turbolinux 8 and earlier, they
cound generally (but not always) be interchanged with Redhat and
Mandrake, but SuSE went to a much finer-grained modularization, and I
had little luck loading one in the other.
With Turbolinux 10, they went to signed RPMs as part of the distrobution
(like most other vendors), so it is not impossible, but keep in mind
that if you load say a RedHat RPM into a Turbolinux 10 system, you will
have to trust the RedHat signature (which I have done on occasion).
This is not a bad thing, and should encourage you to use the updated
configurations (yes, I have paid for Turbolinux 10 Desktop and
Turbolinux 10 F to have at home here, and haven't looked back ;-)
