First of all, the OP needs to practice posing questions, because
personally I have no Clue (TM) what exactly he means by "can't get the
partitioning part right". I provided an answer I believe is perfectly
acceptable for the way he posed the question, and then some.

Because my boss say so..... It is part of my education.
So does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem?
Obviously not in the groups you originally posted to. They're linux
groups, linux lusers are too stupid to know how to help you... plus,
your OP was cut.
It's enough to say that nobody seems to know how to solve his problem
or they would have posted it. We're already fighting over OS
intelligence levels in the other sub-thread of this question.
Correction. No one in alt.os.development, alt.os.linux, alt.os.linux.redhat,
alt.comp.opensource know the answer. No one in alt.windows-xp or
alt.os.windows-xp have seen the OP's question. It was cross-posted with most
of the text cut.
linux makes you stupid. |

Would that be Rebecca and Damian Gates by any chance?
These are Linux newgroups! If you have nothing useful to say, then piss
off - sling your hook!! Just sit back and wait for the next time that
your Windoze system get wiped out by some script kiddie who happened to
hit pay-dirt.
Me? Stoopid? Yeah, OK, at the last measured - IQ of 147 - guess that

After some Googling, I discovered a very useful blog
(http://npat.livejournal.com/46390.html) describing a very similar
problem to mine. That author's SATA Controller was an ATI Radeon
XPRESS 200 (ATI 4379 SATA Controller), which is supported in the Linux
kernel from 2.6.11.
Now, Redhat v4 is based on kernel 2.6.9, so I assume that means my
controller is not supported. I have had a quick look on the ATI
web-site but couldn't find any downloadable driver (maybe I'm searching
for the wrong thing).
Any ideas anyone?

Why would you assume this???? Red Hat is known for appling backports(from
the upstream kernels) and other patches to the kernels that they supply.
With the information you provided (ATI 4379 SATA Controller) visit;
